Presentation

Julliette Clovis is a French artist born in 1976 who lives and works in Aquitaine.

After a first degree in law, 2 years of studying art history at L’Ecole du Louvre and a graphic design course at L’Ecole des Gobelins, Juliette Clovis worked for 5 years in communication and decided to leave her job in 2004 and dedicated herself solely to her art.

Juliette Clovis' artistic research focuses around three main subjects which are; the relationship between man and nature, the opposition between life and death and the dialogue between tradition and modernity. Fascinated by the wild beauty of nature which she discovered during her numerous trips, the artist gets inspired by it to create human jungles and to explore the wild aspect of the body. Playing on a certain ambiguity, Julliette's work ranges from prophetic canvases announcing the birth of a new living species, human silhouettes, half- animal, half-plant faces and the preliminary of an imminent death caused by a greedy nature, eager to retake what belongs to it.

The work is matter and matter is work in the creation of Juliette Clovis. Since 2015, nature is her favorite subject and invades her new creations in porcelain from Limoges. The choice of this noble and classic material, the opposite of those used in his canvases, allows her to confront her deeply contemporary vision of art through a traditional and ancestral technique.

Her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in France, United Kingdom, The United States and Hong Kong.
