Born in 1973, Tony Masschelein began copying comics at the age of 5 and already foreshadowed his exceptional abilities and the gift that would be revealed a few years later in his portrait work.
His arrival in Paris was to be decisive, and he made encounters that developed his attraction for travel and for Asia in particular, thus beginning his spiritual journey. For fifteen years, he painted portraits and at the age of 30, back in the north of France, he set up his studio and decided to live from his passion.
At the beginning of 2006, oriental spirituality opened the doors to the painting of ZAO WOU KI and his atmospheric abstractions. Tony MASSCHELEIN became enthusiastic about abstraction and invested in colours and light to finally bring all this knowledge into his work as a portrait painter.
Tony's faces invite us to intimacy, our gaze plunges into this breach opened by the artist while trying never to disturb, Tony reveals with modesty the souls of his subjects.
