Daniel Boursin

Born in Paris in 1958. Lives and works in Paris and in the Lot-et-Garonne. After studying visual communication at ENSAD in Paris in the early 80s, Daniel Boursin produces creations in the world of textiles, fashion, and communication. At the same time, the entry into painting is through digital images in the movement of free figuration and new beasts. Seen at MOMA in NY in 1986, the exhibition Primitivism in 20th century art is a founding shock. In the 90s, he drew elements from the repertoire of counter-culture and combined them with his reappropriated vision of the primitive arts. Travel, particularly to Central America, Asia, Indonesia and the Caribbean will be important sources of inspiration. His favorite mediums: computer drawing then acrylic transcription on large format canvases. To free the gesture and the emotion, in connection with an analytical work, the writing is done more automatic, in particular the gouaches on paper, some of which contain inclusions in volume. Like Chinese painting, from which he uses the techniques of washing on paper, his painting borrows from the elements of the landscape to make visible the internal vital principles. The bringing together of different mediums (photography, drawing, digital works, painting) aims to diffract vision and make the limits of reality porous. His approach to creation, nourished by an artistically mediated workshop practice in psychiatry and with so-called autistic people, probes the links between artistic creation, the unconscious and the development of the individual, in order to reveal the passages and their dynamics. .
