Eve Carton

Born in 1979, Eve Carton studied at the Beaux-Arts in Monaco. She paints the human body in different settings, or portraits in which she has no hesitation to distort the traits. She is brave enough to examine thoroughly new approaches to portrait, never avoiding excess.

After the moment of pure aesthetic perception of her works, the viewer is drawn to search the sigified of the chromatic signifer. What did the painter want to tell us? What is her message? What if the figures reproduced were only the unconscious representation of the artist, the one that controls her relations to the other, image as imago.

Eve Carton projects herself in her paintings, always different depending on her feelings, in sync with her art in a sort of liberatory catharsis. The deformed bodies, the skinny long fingers, the black eyerings reveal with brutal honesty the painter's complexity. Her portraits are unsettling, the future is threatening and the experiences of the past are heavy and painful.
