Basto

Basto is a painter born in 1973 in Marseille. He currently lives and works between Geneva and Paris. He started drawing at an early age and discovered the world of tag in 1989 in Paris. His pseudonym quickly became famous on the artistic scene of Marseille and on the South East region, especially by his live performances such as "Zik à Ouf", as well as several frescoes with public institutions.

His numerous trips to the five continents nourrish his creativity, especially New York, where he did a residence of three months. His mediterranean origins, infiltrate, in his canvases as compositions of bright colors, having a distinctive sign, his systematic use of warm and primary colors. Aerosol paints, compose his paintings, associated to digigraphy, acrylics, markers and stencils. In 1991, Basto decided to move away from the original codes of graffiti and from the urban environment to leave a lasting trace in history.

When he turned twenty, he did a fresco on one of the pavilions of the BJCM (Biennial of Young Mediterranean Creators) exhibitions in Valencia, Spain. Several of his pieces belong to private and public collections in Germany, Belgium, Spain, France (MUCEM, MoLA), New Zealand, New Caledonia and Switzerland. Basto is listed on Artprice since 2014.
