Régis Rizzo studied fresco, painting and engraving at the Beaux-Arts de Paris (ENSBA) and at the Applied Arts (ENSAAMA).
He exhibits in galleries and in various museums in France and abroad and has participated in artistic residencies in Denmark and Japan. For several years, he has collaborated with contemporary poets and authors.
Régis Rizzo's painting opens up a narrative space close to cinema. His paintings are inspired by his own photographs or gleaned images, such as film images. The freeze frame deepens or disrupts the initial meaning and offers a dialogue between the arts. The subject of his paintings and drawings is always identifiable, but modified as if after having crossed multiple contemporary mediums.
Invited in residence at the School of Fine Arts in Nagoya a few years ago, he discovered Japan and the importance of the unpainted which organizes space and allows the circulation of meaning. Marked by Yasunari Kawabata's text, Sleeping Beauty, he took up the theme of female faces in a series of drawings he continues. He also produces oil paintings on paper, using the principle of the monotype which gives a particular grain to the painting and erases details.
