Presentation

Born in Bordeaux in 1973 in a family of Portuguese origin, musician from an early age, he began painting late but assiduously. This drive was born from a meeting with the artist Agnès Berniolles, whose private studio he attended. There, under his benevolent eye, he exercises freely and explores the pictorial universe and matter at the same time as he searches for himself.

The result very quickly is a true artistic identity, totally disconnected from any influence.
Nevertheless, Thierry Mesquita may have been inspired by great artists to whom he sometimes alludes, such as Paul Klee or Vassily Kandinsky.

But it is above all his 4 years of industrial design, present in the background, and his semi-professional career as a musician and composer that today nourish his work.

His first completed canvas dates from 1999. It was then that he realized that the creative paths of both music and painting were very linked, even, for him, interdependent. The reflection and the artistic wandering are identical, there is only the support which differs ...

Subsequently, he left the studio and definitively emancipated himself from academic speech to give free rein to his innate creativity as a composer. Finally, he produces and delivers his abstract paintings resulting from a mixture of spontaneity, exploitation of serendipity and directed construction. At the start, nothing is premeditated ...

Each stroke of spatulas or brushes elicits the following ...

His quest for balance, for harmony between masses and colors are for him the means to give meaning to an often boring everyday life ...
Although asymmetry and destructuring are at the heart of the creative process of this artist who wishes to escape formatting of all kinds, he remains on the lookout, sensitive to the slightest sign, fear in his stomach, enamored of doubts and convictions in shoulder strap ... The touches on the canvas follow one another until the advent of this color partition of which he delivers the notes with humility.

In the end, worked and reworked until almost musical satisfaction, his paintings appear subtly easy, coherent and definitely harmonious. Artistic expression is for Thierry Mesquita the best way to tame the tumult of thoughts and to feel free in the eyes of the outside world ...

All the works of art in this world will never equal the life of a single bird ...
