Presentation

Arthur Hent is a French artist who lives and works in Nantes.

At the age of 23, a vision will be at the origin of his practice; he sees lines moving in space and imagines developing a language out of them. Previously, he moved to Paris and entered an internship in an advertising agency where he joined forces with a young artistic director. The team is hired by the company Publicis Conseil and releases their first film for the phone plan provider and company SFR, film directed by Tony Kaye.

Two years later he leaves Paris to go live in New Caledonia. It is on this preserved island, in the middle of the Pacific, that he discovers the Lapita pottery (-1500 BC); this journey will be the trigger to create his own universe. He returns to France and begins to develop his language; inspired by programming, Russian novels and the rules of dramaturgy. Meanwhile, he continues to pursue a creative career in major advertising agencies: television, magazine, radio; awarded with numerous prizes.

In 2010, his drawings were noticed by some young merchants leading him to exhibits for the first time in collaboration with the artist Raphaël Fabre.

In 2017, he was chosen by the Benetton Foundation to participate in a publication bringing together a selection of contemporary French artists.

Arthur Hent's works of art are geometric self-portraits that he obtains by applying an algorithm; he obliges himself to follow a succession of very simple instructions when drawing. The result is a combination of his emotions with minimal forms: the line, the circle and the quadrilateral a.k.a quadrangle. Through his work, Arthur Hent reflects on human-machine hybridization; he invents a new abstract art between biology and technology.
