Carlo Wostry was born in Trieste on February 18, 1865. Of an Irish father and a mother from an illustrious Venetian family.


From 1882 to 1885, he attended the Académie des Beaux-Arts, where he mainly studied portraiture. He then attended the Academy of Monaco and that of Bavaria.


In 1887, he exhibited his first major work: Via Crucis. He then worked in France and then became a professor of painting at the Institute of Trieste.


In 1926, he exhibited in the United States, where he decorated the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in New York. He made to order the decoration of several churches and theaters in the USA.


He died in Trieste on March 10, 1943.


Renowned painter during his lifetime and very popular until today, many paintings are sold at auction.
