Motohiro Hayakawa

In the artistic cosmos of Motohiro Hayakawa, grotesque creatures, metallic automatons, and retro sci-fi heroes clad in flamboyant attire wielding laser guns come alive in vivacious comic-style skirmishes. His pieces are exhilarating escapades where action never ceases, enticing us to immerse ourselves and become part of the experience.

Hailing from Yamaguchi Prefecture in Japan, Hayakawa honed his skills at the region's esteemed Technical Institute before venturing into the realms of illustration and comic artistry. Among his key influences are the science fiction shows and cartoons from his youth, most notably Space Sheriff, an iconic Japanese TV series broadcasted in the early 80s. American cartoonist and illustrator Gary Panter also resonates with Hayakawa, as well as a diverse array of musical inspirations spanning from pop to punk.

Hayakawa seamlessly blends various textures and techniques in his creations, employing delicate lines, gelatinous shapes, and fluorescent hues to breathe life into his imaginative scenes teeming with energy and narrative prowess. Since 2009, he has showcased his work in numerous Tokyo galleries, including the Morishita Cultural Centre, and is a member of the Tokyo Illustrators' Society. In 2013, Hayakawa held a solo exhibition in Madrid, and his comic book LASERBEAM was published by the French publishing house Le Dernier Cri that same year.
