Biography
Born in Pakistan in 1983, Salman Toor is an American painter, whose work centers on the experiences of South-Asian and queer individuals. Now based in New York City, Toor attended college in Ohio before graduating from New York City’s infamous Pratt Institute in 2009 with an MFA. The artist’s work often reimagines the experiences of young, Brown men using bright and saturated colors to draw in the viewer’s gaze.
Toor’s work has featured in galleries and exhibitions across the United States, Europe and Asia. Some of his notable features include the Wounds exhibition at Aicon Gallery in London, Salman Toor: Drawings from ‘The Electrician’, Honey Ramka, New York, and No Ordinary Love, Baltimore Museum of Art, Baltimore, Maryland.
