Margarita Zipman

Russian Federation • 1976

I explore human emotions and the roles we play, seeking sincerity beneath social masks. My art reveals inner states and calls for honesty. My motto: “Empathy will save the world.”

Biography

Margarita Zipman is a Moscow-based artist whose work explores human emotionality and the personas we project—both in public and private spheres. She is inspired by the modern individual, by the behavioral archetypes shaped by nature and refined by society. Through her art, Margarita observes the metamorphosis of identity over time and in various life circumstances, studying the emotional masks people choose and the roles they adopt.

Her creative process is a search for authenticity. In series like Totems, she depicts animals with human eyes, revealing that no matter what "skins" we wear, we carry within us the full weight of our past—pain, vulnerability, and the lessons of experience. Her work invites viewers to reconnect with emotional sincerity, which is increasingly hidden beneath the surface of modern life. Her artistic motto is: “Empathy will save the world."

Margarita Zipman has held solo exhibitions in Russia and abroad, including Totems at Art Gallery Zurich and an ongoing display of new works at the private art space of the M-Invest Mansion in Moscow. Among her many group exhibitions, a notable highlight is Pastelium at the New Tretyakov Gallery, part of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Her works are held in private collections across Russia and Europe.

She is currently developing a new series titled Contemporary Woman and Her Choice, set to be presented at select exhibitions in 2026.
