This captivating portrait presents an unstructured and expressive approach, typical of the style of Pablo Picasso himself. Artist Ronnie Jiang interpreted and distorted Picasso's face to create a disfigured and enigmatic depiction. Lines and shapes are deconstructed and recomposed in an abstract way, giving the work a feeling of movement and dynamism. This disfigured portrait of Pablo Picasso is a contemporary and innovative interpretation of one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. It highlights Picasso's artistic legacy while providing a personal and original vision. The work invites the viewer to reflect on the changing nature of identity and the capacity of art to transform and distort reality. This disfigured portrait of Pablo Picasso offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the legendary artist, while retaining the revolutionary spirit and expressionism that characterized Picasso's work. It is a thought-provoking work that demonstrates Picasso's lasting impact on art history.

Ronnie Jiang

Indonesia  • 1977

Ronnie Jiang subtly and derisively combines stories to expose the contradictions of today's world. Realistic portraits and cartoon characters from this series dedicated to social reflection rub shoulders and dialogue. The interest of their confrontation is amplified by a duality of tones. The men, women and children painted in sober gray and flesh tones are heckled by the flamboyant colors of animated characters such as Pinnochio or Donald Duck.

Portraits, faces, lips, eyes, busts, breasts…. In this series dedicated to the destructuring of bodies, a joyful anatomy is built and deconstructed in the footsteps of cubism. The carnal fragments Geometric but always realistic identify themselves flawlessly and free themselves in their contortions. As usual, we detect in the work of Ronnie Jiang some characters from cartoons and famous people such as Picasso or Dali. Assertive and charismatic individualities spring forth without being disembodied. These new, strange and imposing creatures show a certain spatiality of forms. Their juxtapositions lead to the possibility of a new narrative. Despite the suggested mystery, the controlled and mannered line is part of the figurative filiation.

The artist reveals here through humor the failings of the information society, fake news, human innocence, the relationships of domination and the wars that destroy the world. These works intend to shake up consciences. Ronnie Jiang practices art with commitment. She aspires to convey an accessible message by transmitting a certain generational symptom. Caroline Canault.
