United States

Steven H. Lewis is a Colorado native, a photographer, painter, author, physician and Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado- as a Faculty Associate at the Center for Bioethics and Humanities and Pathology. He is double Board Certified and fellowship trained. He began art photography and photojournalism at age 10. Lewis' studies brought him to the sciences research and medicine, but throughout this journey he continued to produce images for both art and his medical/ science investigations wherein he authored in literature including journals, book chapters, and a text book. His images are utilized there and for lecturing in universities as well as in national annual meetings across the US- synergistically always using art to convey information.

Lewis became involved in “art for healing" at the turn of the century. Training included, the University of Colorado and its School of Medicine, Cornell's New York Hospital, Memorial Sloane Kettering Hospital, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, The University of South Florida, and as CEO of Women's Centers along Florida's Treasure Coast. His training in the arts included innumerable worldrenowned photographers and artists (such as Charles Waller in East Hampton / NYC and Sylvia Plachy at The Anderson Ranch and many others….) over the course of 3 decades.

Lewis' art has been exhibited in Museums (The Aspen Art Museum and the Vero Beach Museum of art as examples) and in a permanent institutional NYU Law collection. Lewis has been an artist in Residence at Namaste Center for Arts and Events in Denver, The Red Brick Center for Arts in Aspen and The Given Institute of Aspen where he also served as the Director, of Public Programs for the Institution's five decades old “Medical Think Tank". With over 30 juried solo and group exhibitions in galleries (some selected including: Liv Art in Aspen, Elizabeth Kerr Gallery Sussex, Gallery Swanstrom Boston, MA, Ward Nasse Gallery Soho, 39 Degrees Hotel Aspen, The Pate Collection Vero Beach, Florida, NY Center for Arts (Exhibited at Great Neck Center for Arts- 'Art for Healing'... and many others across the US in the last 2 decades. Several pieces from his Course of the Horse exhibition were procured from the NY Ward Nasse Solo Show, to be displayed at “Baroque Blue" at Primo Piano in Leece Italy. The Show was a benefit for the MJF Foundation for Parkinson's Research and accompanied by a book, authored by Dr. Lewis including the show's images and his added text. Over recent years Dr. Lewis has focused on producing commissioned works. He is known for overpainting large format images to create something more than a photograph. Here shown are two mixed digital media images produced from The Course of a Horse SOHO exhibit.

Recent art publications include volume The Human Touch – an Arts and Humanities book published by the University of Colorado.
