The Man / Woman sculpture pair of Arash Paya refer to this period of ancestral Iranian culture.
It mixes ancient codes and symbols with contemporary codes of today's Iranian society.

The term Amlash culture refers to an association of materials and historical periods in Gilan and west of Mazandaran in northern Iran. Amlash refers to the geographic region from which certain archaeological objects of certain types originate. It has no real archaeological meaning when used with the word culture. These objects attributed to Amlaš have been shown in numerous exhibitions in Europe and the United States and often appear in catalogs.

Amlash, was a small village in the south-east of Gilan in 1959. The name comes from the nearby valleys of Alborz where archaeological artifacts have been found during excavations. The artefacts date from the end of the second millennium BC. The dating and significance of known objects (bronze weapons and animal figurines, human statuettes in terracotta and bronze, pottery vases with animal effigy and black, gray or burnished orange pottery vases) are complicated by an insufficient archaeological context.

After having seen the birth of modern man, knowing how to write, count, live in the city and cultivate his land, this region was the theater of the Sumerians and then underwent the territorial unification of the Akkads.

Saw the birth of Hamourabi, the kingdoms of Mari and Ebla, survived the Hittite and Elamite worlds, met the Assyrian and Babylonian empires and the Persian Achaemenid populations of the 1st millennium. Then came Hellenistic influences with the conquest of Alexander in the 4th century. BC, followed by the gradual arrival of Roman culture from the west and Parthian from the east.
