Sunyol´s figurative abstract work depicts quiet streets and the narrow alleys so typical of the Mediterranean, devoid of people, yet their presence is felt. Simple lines and divisions are at the heart of his compositions. Often he skilfully portrays delicate sunlight and the afternoon shadows it casts, but lately bright oils and spatula unite to flood his canvases with bold confident colour.
Sunyol's works bring one to the Mediterranean evenings, when the streets are about to be filled and the sun is about to leave an empty sky. You feel the heat and the salty humidity while walking in your usual sandals; 'one doesn't need much else to to be happy', you think to yourself. Perhaps Sunyol agreed with that thought while painting the silent avenues.
