In the intriguing universe of the artist Maud Dabs, emerges a striking work entitled "These snakes that whistle in our heads". Through this drawing, Maud Dabs explores the complexity of the female condition with a reference to the mythical Medusa. A woman, with an elegantly drawn profile, stands in the center of the composition, her hair flowing in a dark cascade that seems to imprison deep secrets. The dry pastel and the acrylic interact on the paper, creating a striking contrast between the soft nuances and the intense shadows.
The work captures the struggles and challenges women face, symbolized by the hissing serpents of mythology. These snakes, elusive and tangled, evoke inner and outer voices that try to impose constraints. Much like Medusa, the female figure displays resilient strength, a silent defiance of oppression.

In her characteristic black and white works, Maud Dabs questions the relationships between the body, the mind and the notion of self, in order to define a way of representing them as a sensitive entity, beyond the image.
Rejecting the unmotivated representations of bodies widespread in the public space, Maud Dabs's beyond-bodies (an expression borrowed from Pierre Soulages's beyond-blacks) are located beyond the body: they are the drawing of the mind through the body image, in order to reach a visual level where the self is represented.
Combining techniques and textures, the artist's monochrome universe offers often strange framing and silhouettes that deprive the public of their figurative landmarks. Maud Dabs thus wants to draw the public into an unreal universe, beyond the image, in order to encourage them to take the time to read the work and to invite them to read it themselves.
The artist's works are intended as a counterpoint to the vacuity of most contemporary images. Thus, his drawings are constructed as a visual essay on the human psyche and its relationship with the body.
Born in 1996, Maud Dabs graduated in modern literature (La Sorbonne) and visual arts (Ecole des Arts de la Sorbonne). His plastic work and his problematics took shape thanks to the study of the living model, philosophy and literature.

Can I negotiate the price of an artwork?
For some artworks, you can negotiate the price. If the price of the work is negotiable, you have a “Make an offer” button under the “Buy this work” one.
To submit your offer, you must make a payment of the desired amount. Your offer will then be forwarded to the gallery, which reserves the right to accept or reject it. If your offer is accepted, it means that your order is confirmed by the gallery and they will prepare the artwork for shipment. If your offer is rejected, you will be refunded the total amount paid automatically. The gallery can also propose a counter-offer for the acquisition of the artwork.

Where can I have my order delivered?
Artsper delivers worldwide!
However, please note that once your order reaches its destination, it may be subject to VAT or other customs fees. These charges are beyond our control and you will be responsible for paying them (this is indicated at the ‘checkout’ first step).
Select the delivery address of your choice. Please make sure that someone is present to receive your order.
If your billing address is different to your delivery address you can specify this at the checkout.
Return and cancellation
You can return the artwork without needing to provide a reason or pay a penalty fee up to 14 days after receiving your order.
In the case that the right of withdrawal is exercised in the aforementioned time frame, the price of the artwork(s) purchased and the shipping costs will be reimbursed by us as soon as the gallery has received the artwork and notified us.
Artsper will manage the return of the work and will bear the cost of returns (which will either be paid by you and refunded by Artsper or directly paid by Artsper).
The artwork must be returned in perfect condition and in its original packaging (or equivalent).
