Presentation
Yseult Digan aka YZ (b. 1975) lives and works in Senegal. YZ (pronounced "eyes") is an established French street artist who gained international recognition since 2003 with her project "Open Your Eyes". Her art is centered on the question of humanity and authenticity in the context of modern metropolis. She goes even further with her series 'lost in the city' she offers here an in-depth questioning and understanding of each city (London, Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai...), and help us to realize what make them such unique and fascinating places.
YZ primarily works as a painter creating original artworks on kraft paper that she puts up on city walls like posters. These short-lived images become part of the city environment and question its fading memories.
Besides, the artist worked on the series 'women from another century';india ink and silk paper portraits of celebrities or unknown women from another time (inspired by photographs of the early 20's). She explores the role and image of the woman and offer us a feminine figure rich and complex but also very distant from contemporary stereotypes.
Works by YZ have been exhibited at the Grand Palais and at Fondation Cartier in Paris. In 2013 YZ has been invited for an artist residency at Centre Pompidou as part of project In-Situ.
