Marie Bas-Diôt

Born in 1971, painter and sculptor Marie Bas-Dîot graduated from the National Schools of Fine Arts in Nice (Villa Arson).

She lives in Burgundy and Paris.

“There are places you never come back from…"

So when Marie Bas Diot returns to the studio after her little excursions, her introspections or she takes pictures, she begins to write and describe what she has seen from her travels.

Sometimes she picks up sentences on postcards bought during the trip and there the images come back to her. Now all that's left to do is paint.

Then appear all the buried places painted without constraints except those to translate emotion there which leaves us perplexed. There is something pre-Raphaelite in his painting. And, often, behind his paintings we inherit a sentence born from the inspiration of the moment that the place provoked. But unlike the travel diaries that have not been produced until now, Marie Bas Diot needs to imagine and transpose the places as certain places whose atmosphere we have forgotten and which we miss. His work as a painter constitutes this and also the storage of lived experience.

The views are places where the landscape has often remained intact, small chapel, fallow land, stone shelters in the plains, rocks on the cliffside, lines of fields in the landscape with views often in reference to the paintings of the greats. Italian Renaissance painters.
