Presentation

Born in 1992 in Bielsko-Biala in the south of Poland, Karolina Orzelek joined Tim Eitel’s studio in the Fine Arts Academy of Paris. She graduated in 2016. She lives and works in Paris. She won several painting prizes in Poland and has recently been pre-selected for " La Convocation " prize. The Galerie Dukan discovered her and dedicated her "Solaris", her first solo show in Leipzig (Germany) in 2017.

Her work explores the perception of reality and the contradictions that are played out there. From her personal archives, she reconstructs universes with permeable boundaries : fantasy and quiet, located on the edge of dream and fantasy, memory and illusion where the tension is certainly soft, but palpable. In her paintings the moments are frozen, as if suspended, dominated by a feeling of "after" strengthening this dichotomy between dreamlike and apocalyptic omen.

Through its colors, reality then appears as augmented in a kind of "solarisation". Inspired by magical realism, fairy tales, mythologies and popular beliefs, her works invite us to move freely in spaces-times shelters where the lonely characters are a support for a contemplative and confusing reflection.
