Presentation
After a career in industrial design in South Africa, Anine Kirsten moved to Lisbon in 2020 to start an artistic project focused around light. In the context of a collaboration with DJ Dan Ghenacia for the Alpha Wave Experience, she put her engineering skills to use to create a hybrid object, located between a contemporary work of art and a “dream machine". It is at that moment that she discovered light's artistic potential, that she develops today with a series of geometric and luminous sculptures.
Her work utilizes the space as the color's projection screen, in the manner of american light-artists such as James Turrell or Dan Flavin. The play on the perception of volumes is an important element of her work, as echoes to Julio Le Parc's Op-Art. Many of Anine Kirsten's asymmetric mural sculptures open on a digital universe punctuated with visual effects which bear similarities to Glitch Art.
