Tasic

Miodrag Tasic was born in 1954 in Belgrade, former Yugoslavia. He lived until his adolescence in Split. He and his family emigrated in 1967 to France where he first lived in Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer in the Alpes-Maritimes.

Very young already, from the 70s, he devoted himself to sculpture. He started working with lost wax and bronze from 1982 in his workshop in Villefranche / mer.

At Tasic, sculpture is practiced according to the ancient rules which date back to High Antiquity: work with lost wax, creation of the work in wax, then manufacture of the impression which will allow the wax mold which will be used in the foundry to be cast. bronze, then re-work in the workshop, a slave labor with hammer and chisel, sander, polisher and until the finish of a perfect patina that he also performs himself and in hand in the privacy of his studio.

In his studio, in the middle of the bronzes, the floors of wax creations, pieces of bodies, arms, waiting feet, work tables, workbenches, a multitude of tools, a meticulous ordering that presides over the mystery of this that is happening. It is the home of Art in the old sense, in the Renaissance sense of the term but also in the extremely contemporary sense of the word.

Tasic's work is nourished by this mixture between a classicism, volume, relief, figurative and the delirious escape towards the dream, the imagination of a totally unknown universe. His immense technique, his know-how, his mastery of the gesture operates the magic of a creation that wrinkles, bends, twists, swells

When discovering his work, we imagine an instinctive connection with artists like Cellini, Bellmer, Messerschmidt or even closer to us César, or even a painter like Bacon.
