Manfred Paul is one of the most important representatives of GDR auteur photography and became known to a wider public at the latest with his participation in the exhibition "Geschlossene Gesellschaft" (Berlinische Galerie, 2012).

His works deal with the existential questions of human existence. The photographs contained in the work groups "Verena", "Still Life" or "Artist Portraits" are images that become parables in order to understand the passing of all things as a condition of life. These photographic series are long-term projects that are continuously developed and updated. In the past, Manfred Paul used only black-and-white photography as a medium, but in recent years the groups of works have increasingly been expanded to include color photographs. Manfred Paul now shows current works from these groups in this exhibition. These are supplemented by the group of works "Seestücke" (2011), which was exhibited for the first time.

With the help of extreme long-term exposures, Manfred Paul has captured the changes in a marine landscape. The result is pictures of subtle beauty, which capture the changes in space over time as an evolving spectrum of colours, almost monochrome.
