Presentation

Born in Montreal, Bethany Harper-Williams is a visual artist.

She studied at Concordia Fine arts, with majors in design and graphics. After this, she moved to Toronto and began a career as a graphic designer. She worked for 20 years in this field before devoting herself to painting.

The artist draws inspiration through nature and landscapes. She is used to lakes and oceans and the region of Maine, Bethany Harper-Williams paints these spaces. Most of all, she is fascinated by water, as it brings her a lot of peace and harmony, but she also loves the movement. Water allows the colors to move around, an evolution which makes time stand still.

We feel peaceful in front of her paintings. Bethany Harper-Williams harnesses a moment, just like a photographer or a memory. We can feel this atmosphere referring to the past. A feeling which the artist tries to emerge through her paintings. The aim is to enjoy the present moment and go with the flow.

Bethany Harper-Williams liberates herself from representation codes, details and gives her images a misty look. We are immersed in a memory, a pure moment without any interruptions. The artist works in a simple manner, with dynamism and minimal colors.

The setting could be fun or even fantasy like, showing children getting ready to jump in the sea. This decor allows the artist play around with textures, sand, sea and the sun in pure shades.

She displayed her worked for the first time in 2011 at Art Project in New-York, she has also presented in private collections in Canada, U.K and U.S.A.
