Presentation

Nicole Besnainou was born in 1959, and now lives and works in Uzes, France.

During her childhood in Paris, she explores museums, workshops and later attends Art schools (in Paris, but also Nimes and Avignon). She never goes anywhere without her pencils, paints and camera, always ready to capture what she sees. Drawing, painting and sculpting are part of her life.

In her work as a teacher, she shared her passion with her students. She initiated projects focused on the movement, the material and the body - in a perspective of communication openness towards the world.

Student of the sculptor Philippe Chazot, she learned rigor and another relationship to time while sculpting. Her work is getting an increasing recognition in the South of France: Aix en pce, Avignon, Uzes

Dance is one of her chosen source of inspiration, and she captures its strength and sensuality in her creations. Emotion also play a major role in her work.

She opposes a raw material which she scratches, beats and modifies, to finely molded faces.

Her sculptures seem to rise from the earth, with the expressions of persons met along the roads and her journeys around the world - to Mali, India, Cambodia, Japan, Indonesia etc.

Nicole likes the idea of going back to our roots. Her work is a tribute to the grace of beings rising from the clay, balanced sculptures looking forward to freedom, peace and a hope.

Her sculptures celebrate the energy of women, the laughter of children, the strength and positive power of mankind in moments of dance and life.
