Rémi Segalas

Rémi Segalas was born in Paris 14th, and grew up between Sologne and Béarn. He entered a Graphic Arts school in 2009 in Blois. It was at ETIC, directed by Cathy Beauvallet, that the painter learned from published illustrators and graphic designers the different techniques of academic drawing, painting and illustration. After spending four years subsequently, this time in Toulouse, entering the School of Fine Arts and then training in textile design, Rémi Segalas returned to the capital to work with young fashion designers. To date, he devotes himself completely to his painting and presents his work during personal or collective exhibitions, and at various renowned Parisian trade fairs. He received a distinction at the Salon des Artistes Français in 2022, then the special prize of the 2024 show at the Salon du Dessin & Peinture à l'Eau in Paris.

“I have this desire to tell a human story on my paintings, which I hope can touch many people.

I work by organizing several sketching sessions with a model. The objective is to stage stories that question emotions through body language. I explore the body and its gestures, the intimacy of a posture or a look, to construct an aesthetic that wishes to capture its viewer. My passion for drawing is stimulated by this need to express my personal history, my creative existence.

Like a mirror, my artistic vision and its result naturally present the human and animal body, with realistic morphologies, at the center of the subject. It is a humanist vision, voluntary in the interpretation of the freedom of the body, its movements and expression. I am not yet seeking to surpass a reality, but to interpret my emotions through the exercise of drawing and its material. The result of my plastic research transcribes the idea of an imprint, I use a technique which consists of applying different acrylic coatings, which I transform rocky, uneven like a raw mineral surface, the latter accommodates a light drawing with transparent ink. Two technical and graphic oppositions, suddenly complementary. I am constantly looking for luminous effects through my colors, and movements evoked by transparency on these static supports that are my canvases. I offer contemporary figurative painting, but maintain my academic approach in drawing with a model. This also allows me, through his silhouette, to tell his news. It is thus created through these interactions, the witness of our time in perpetual physical and moral evolution. »
