Draftsman, painter and decorator...Valdo Louis Barbey was born in Valeyres-sous-Rances in Switzerland (Vaud) on November 1, 1880.

He learned his art from Eugène Burnand and Jean-Paul Laurens at the Académie Julian in Paris, as well as from George Desvallières.

Naturalized French in 1909, he took part in the First World War in the 109th line infantry regiment.

He was active in Paris. He received the Officer of the Legion of Honor award. He was appointed painter to the Navy in 1947.

Valdo-Barbey died on December 5, 1964 at his home in the 6th arrondissement of Paris.
