British artist Maribel Matthews has redirected her work to address the impending crisis of climate change. Her abstract works are created using a combination of oils and mixed media, with the goal of using more environmentally friendly materials.
His works often use bright colors to create powerful scenes of abstract nature, meant to remind us of the threat of increasingly violent natural disasters.
Matthews cites the Mediterranean environment as an influence on his color palette. Matthews has mastered style and medium, and is able to move seamlessly from heavily impastoed oil abstraction to more delicate Fauvist or Impressionist scenes.
The retired teacher hopes her art will not only serve to better inform the world about the realities of climate change, but also be a portal to a slightly better world.
