The strong charge of the work was undoubtedly stimulated by the turbulent period of its creation in the second half of the 1930s. In it, Janoušek finds himself in a plane of biomorphic surrealism, which allowed him to develop an extraordinarily suggestive raw scene illustrating his inner rich world. In the artist's card catalogue this work is described: "On a light ground of cinder pasty in the foreground, a dark grey creature of long insect limbs striped black curls in an arc from the left around the right edge into the background on the left, where it terminates in a spiny jagged semicircular shape, facing the same shape emerging from the horizon on the left above a purchased reddish-brown spiny litter, extending horizontally through the centre of the picture to the right edge. " The subversive creature depicted seems to be a reflection of Janoušek's personal, very visceral and vivid experience of the impending war, from which he cannot escape even into his fantasy world, for that too is full of nightmares. The painting appeared in two important posthumous exhibitions of the painter. The first time it was exhibited at the Mánes. The value of this sovereignly conceived painting is evidenced by the fact that it originally came directly from the artist's family.
Untitled - this appellation is characteristic for works of surrealist painters who did not want their works to be interpreted facilely with the help of titles. It was an approach adopted by Toyen and Jindrich Styrský for instance. The richly-coloured painting evokes the creeping omnipresent danger. Its individual elements have vegetable and animal origins. They are animate organisms that evoke a sense of threat. Janousek was disclosing his subjective feelings about the oppressiveness of the times.

Presentation
An outstanding painter, Frantisek Janousek, was one of the foremost artists on the Czech scene in the first half of the 20th century. He attended a teacher training college in Prague and subsequently studied at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts (1919−1922) where his teacher was Vojtěch Hynais. He then undertook study trips to Vienna and Germany. On his return he worked as a teacher until he received a military pension and was able to devote himself full-time to painting. He showed his work at prestigious exhibitions of the period, including the famous Poezie 32. Initially his works were neo-classical in style with elements of cubism but later the cubist elements predominated and at the end of the 1920s surrealist tendencies appeared in his oeuvre. Paintings from that period were also shown at the House of Art in Ostrava in 1927. After 1933 amoeba-like shapes start to appear in his paintings, where they formed clusters of capillaries and bladders. His paintings were among the first to react to the worsening political situation in Europe and the creeping onset of fascism. The paintings are full of monsters evoking the looming danger. Their leitmotiv became the feeling of evil and brutal violence that grow in the irrational landscapes of timelessness.
