Néo-impressionnisme
Le néo-impressionnisme est un mouvement artistique qui s'est développé en France à la fin du 19ème siècle. Il est né d'un rejet de certaines caractéristiques de l'impressionnisme, telles que le réalisme et l'enregistrement spontané de la nature pour capturer la lumière changeante sur le paysage. Les artistes néo-impressionnistes ont plutôt choisi d'utiliser des principes scientifiques de lumière et de couleur dans leurs œuvres afin d'obtenir des effets visuels. Par exemple, ils appliquaient la peinture sur la toile par petits points ou touches de couleur, qui se mélangeaient dans l'œil du spectateur à une certaine distance pour former une seule teinte de couleur. Cette technique est appelée divisionnisme, mais elle est aussi souvent appelée… le pointillisme !
Les chefs de file du néo-impressionnisme étaient Georges Seurat - à qui l'on doit la technique du divisionnisme, et Paul Signac. Parmi les autres membres du mouvement figurent Albert Dubois-Pillet, Maximilien Luce, Henri-Edmond Cross et Camille Pissarro. En 1884, les néo-impressionnistes créent la Société des Artistes Indépendants.
