Linked to the Op Art movement, he creates geometric shapes where light is diffused on his abstract canvases. Mathieu PIFFETEAU applies small squares of oil paint one by one, forming color gradients. Immediate optical effect! The eye perceives a luminous energy which appears throughout the canvas also giving a kinetic effect. He uses oil paint in a slow and precise process of fragmentation, a long technique but which allows fluidity. Despite the apparent perfection of this luminous continuity, none of the small squares are identical. It is the act of crushing the paint by moving from one line to another which gives the eye the impression of continuity, because it does not perceive the breaks.
