Painting is an act of love
Biography
Barbara Goldmann is a self-taught painter who lives in Paris. She discovered painting during a three-year stay in New York. Her work explores various themes through a style that mixes abstraction and figuration. Her work is often described as immediate and poetic, for which she relies on her intuition and her visions, which she tries to capture before they disappear. Working in series, she can devote several years to the same cycle until an event sparks an artistic renewal, giving birth to a new series. When she creates a painting, she places the canvas directly on the ground to free herself from any analytical thought. Her drawings on paper, made spontaneously in a single gesture, reflect this quest for authenticity. Barbara attaches particular importance to the unconscious, to visions and to contradictions.
