Bruno Helgen studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Epinal. Until 1986, he worked as a photographer for the Agence Presse collective. He then worked in film production before embarking on a career in design in 1995.
Bruno Helgen's globes poetically illustrate the dance of the diverse cartographic representations of continents, nation-states, the oceans and seas that separate them, and above all, the seemingly arbitrary dramas: tectonic, political, cultural and religious, that continue to deform and define them.
The globes are crafted from an amalgam of recycled teak roots and resins. For his black globes, he also uses volcanic sand from the beaches of northern Bali.
