This fourth soloshow of Jef Aérosol at Martine Ehmer Gallery in Brussels could not have been called differently as long as it covers all the meanings of this term.
It will truly be a crossing since the gallery just opened a second space, in front of the first. The artist takes over both places and visitors are therefore invited to go from one side of the street to the other: from 200 to 183 rue Haute.
Between realism, surrealism, dreamlikeism and poetry, the images echo the transformations and metamorphoses that mark our time. Jef paints our questionings, accepts our imaginations to wander and our minds to work. The stencil artist remains faithful to his humanist inspirations and we find his distinctive style. Nevertheless, he explores certain themes which, for some, sometimes deviate from his usual register. These experiments are consistent with the title of the exhibition: mixtures, gateways, transitions ... The recurring sign and trademark of the artist, the red arrow plays both its role of disruptive element and of common thread.
Four letters are in bold in this CROSSOVER, forming the verb OSER in French which means DARE. The artist suggests that we have to dare to cross, discover, explore. Dare to mix and match, to be different.
