Biographie
Né à Toronto en 1970, David Drebin vit et travaille à New York.
Après des études au Parsons School of Design, il se fait très vite remarquer pour ses portraits de célébrités, s'ensuivent alors d'importantes campagnes publicitaires internationales. Il présente en 2005 sa première exposition à Berlin, passant ainsi du statut de photographe professionnel à celui d'artiste, entériné par la publication de son livre "Love and Other Stories". Les arrière-plans urbains, de New York à Hong Kong tels d'opulents décors, sont habités de femmes fatales saisies lorsque la tension est portée à son paroxysme.
En effet, le caractère profondément cinématographique qui caractérise son oeuvre est la résultante de plusieurs thèmes qui lui sont chers : la mélancolie, le sexe et l'humour. Autant psychologiques que voyeuristes, ses oeuvres ont la particularité de faire ressurgir de façon concrète des émotions enfouies en chacun de nous.
Régulièrement publié chez TeNeues, ses livres s'accompagnent d'expositions dans les plus prestigieuses galeries internationales de Miami à Istanbul, aux cotés d'artistes légendaires comme Andy Warhol ou Helmut Newton. Présentes dans des collections privées d'importance majeure, les photographies de David Drebin battent régulièrement des records, telle "Central Park", aujourd'hui épuisée, négociée à 78 000 dollars à Art Miami en 2010. Plus récemment, l'artiste a présenté sa dernière série de monographies baptisée "Beautiful Disasters", faisant elle aussi l'objet d'une publication.
