A native of the Cévennes, Pierre-Luc Poujol shares his time in his workshops in the South of France and Miami. After studies in applied arts from which he graduated top of his class - first prize for drawings, first prize for sketches, first prize for perspectives - Pierre-Luc Poujol devoted his creative talent for many years to design and graphic design, before turning definitively a few years ago to his art, painting.
Pierre-Luc Poujol left geometric abstraction for a moment, for a lyrical flight towards a pure and free projection.
Artistic Statement
In line with action painting and abstract expressionism, Pierre-Luc Poujol chose to paint by projection and dripping. He thus confronts the nothin- gness of the canvas by seeking to project order and meaning, with the tenacious will to explore and discover new territories. If aesthetics and retinal emotion prevail in his painting, the artist gives a preponderant place to the symbolic.
Back from Giverny, the artist revisits the Water Lilies so dear to Claude Monet and offers us a spectacular, shimmering and energetic reinterpre- tation of them. We are in the living, in the present moment, in sensuality.
Projections, spots of colour collide on the canvas with precision and ba- lance. The further away from the work, the more we plunge into the ar- tist’s universe. The journey can begin.
An immersion in the heart of nature, of the vegetal world, with its reliefs, its always balanced disorder and above all an extremely controlled play of light and shadow. For it is indeed through light that colours are born in Pierre-Luc Poujol’s work, as they are in Monet’s work. His works are an invitation to escape, to spirituality, to beauty. The enthusiasm and the talent of the painter provoke us a real emotion.
A beautiful tribute to one of the masters of impressionism.
