André Pierret was born in Schaerbeek in Belgium in 1928. He was not only a painter but also a draftsman and an engraver who studied at the Brussels Académie des Beaux Arts, La Cambre (E.N.S.A.A.D.), the local Brabant Institute and at the Ixelles School of Art where he taught from 1970 to 1990. In 1952 he won the F.Baes prize for painting, in 1969 the E. Bouillot prize and in 1979 the Charles Swyncop prize for the body of his work. His style began as impressionistic followed by a phase of cleaner portrait and landscape painting. Then in 1970 he passed through a period of expressionism leading him eventually to more metaphysical and surreal subjects painted with a dreamlike quality. From 1982 onwards he developed an abstract style which he called 'biomorphic' usually executed in acrylic or pastel. In 1983 and 1984 Pierret created four mural paintings in Ixelles (Brussels). He died in 1992 in Watermael-Boitsfort.
