Mathilde Froidure

France

Biography

A self-taught painter born in Paris in 1949, Mathilde Lafait Froidure began her work around 1990, creating sketchbooks to capture the essence of her travels. Collected materials (documents, plants, etc.) combined with graphic works such as sketches and watercolors structured her field sketches. The transition to large-format watercolors then occurred naturally, allowing for a greater affirmation of her personal style and authentic expression. But the artist wished to further develop her creativity by moving beyond the gesture that creates the image and exploring the medium of paint itself: it will be acrylic.

The artist primarily uses acrylics to create her own textures and ink, which she uses to embellish carefully chosen areas; this allows her to play with the unexpected, yielding surprising, sometimes spectacular, results. Like a tightrope walker on a taut wire, she moves between realism and abstraction, allowing each to emerge, ensuring the balance of her work.
