Gérard Traquandi

Gérard Traquandi was born in 1952 in Marseille. He lives and works in Marseille and Paris.

Like his painting, he draws on the ground: flowers, trees, mountains and clouds, but also baroque sculptures, chandeliers, bushes, figures... He attaches himself to movements, to the flow and swirl of curves and lines, thus revealing sensitive works where efflorescences and arabesques mingle.

As he says himself, drawing is the backbone of his work: “First of all, it's the most economical technique I know, and economy of means is a virtue in art in my eyes. I don't know of a better way to get intimately involved with the subjects that motivate me. Drawing is a form of meditation, it requires concentration, forces you to make choices and, finally, helps you forget yourself."

Since the 1990s, he has developed a powerful and unique body of work, which constantly questions the very practices of painting, photography and sculpture. Recently, he exhibited at the Abbey of Montmajour, at the European House of Photography, in Paris, at the Pavillon des Arts Populaires in Montpellier, at the Cantini Museum in Marseille... His works are present in the collections of the Center Pompidou, the National Museum of Modern Art, the CNAP, the MEP and several FRACs, as well as in other French and European public and private collections.
