Presentation
Art on 56th is pleased to invite you to the exhibition Visitors in the Presence of Neutrality, by Syrian artist Hasko Hasko. Born in Afrine, Syria, in 1973, Hasko deals in his works with the elements of nature, animals and mythical figures from the cultures of Mesopotamia. His paintings are distinguished by multiple layers of stories, which present a dichotomy between childhood memories and present sensibilities. By exploring the theme of memory, the artist reveals hidden stories that unfold in the work of art. Hasko Hasko is unique as much for his art as for his name. His works in 'Visitors in the Presence of Neutrality' are autobiographical and describe a duality in the artist's character between his human and animal qualities. His paintings express both the curiosity of youth and the wisdom of experience and of learning. They reveal a primitive element, depicting archetypal and childish forms in the "Art Brut" style. Its expressive use of color and the blurring of chromatic zones produces an illusion of movement and flow, capturing the simultaneous denouement of his stories He creates beauty in the midst of the disorder of abstract forms The artist collapses the space and eliminates the hierarchy in his work, removing focal points and pushing his composition to the edges of the canvas. Hasko also plays with the concept of tactility, he combines the act of molding a sculpture with the flat surface of his painting. By creating patterns, the artist's hand and his instinct take control. centrality of the composition, while combining memory with fiction and reality constructed with the imaginary.
