Kamen Startchev was born in 1971 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He lives and works in Sofia. In 1997 he obtained his MFA in Sculpture at the National Academy of Arts, Sofia, Bulgaria, in the class of Prof. Emil Popov.
He is the winner of the Grand prix - 7th International Print Art Triennial – Sofia 2014.
His works are part of the collections of the National Art Gallery and Sofia City Art Gallery Bulgaria.
"The works of Kamen Startchev use recognizable details from the reality, brought out to almost abstract forms, which intensifi their effects throught their alienation to specific connotations, functionality, and context. The digital print allows additional technicising of the images to a degree of a laconic expression, when they acquire the structure of a diagram; the images are devoid of all possible subject matter and causal commitment, and the color solutions are dominated by synthetic colors. The graphics of Startchev are not key of physiognomic fragments, but rather their alternative, unfolding opportunities for unusual configuration of a new materiality." - Galina Lardeva
