Quentin Bariseau

Originally from a fishing town on the Opal Coast in the Pas-de-Calais, Quentin Bariseau has always been interested in art. He studied for 5 years at the Dunkerque School of Fine Arts and refined his drawing style in parallel. He also undertook artist residencies, including one in Ireland.

Endowed with an emotional personality, drawing becomes for him a prosperous refuge where agitation gives way to calm and concentration. He then imagines dreamlike, fantastic worlds where nature and vestiges, altered organic matter and chimerical fauna mingle.

Here is the artist's approach:

"No preparatory sketch.

The pencil is placed in the centre of the sheet of paper; the process begins.

Like a fertile microcosm, the drawing is born and develops. An incisive, vibrant drawing, where the tip of the pencil reveals an introspective journey through a magma of organic and mineral forms.

Little by little, an architecture becomes clearer, a complex network spreads and finally stabilises and becomes self-sufficient. Visceral constructions floating in an empty space devoid of scale, the drawing raises questions.

The rhythm is sustained, the eye attentive, the execution often in one go.

The observer has the choice of the track, a monstrous monumental structure, microscopic organisms, gangrenous vestiges of a passing time that inscribes its action in the flesh of the matter, a time that eats away at our reference points and plunges us into uncertainty.
