Miriam Gaité

Miriam Gaité was born in 1978, she lives and works in Plan - de - la - tour (Var). Trained in applied arts, she draws since her earliest childhood, but it is the meeting with the painter Jacques Gatti that convinces her to turn her passion into a profession. At his side, she sharpens her sense of color and her attention to the material, therefore privileging technical mastery over the originality of the subject. His figurative style confronts academic pictorial techniques with the codes of urban graphics to better intensify the chromatic rendering of his paintings.

The classic basis of his works, ensured by the mastery of the line and the impasto of the brush, is in fact disturbed by the spraying of the paint in spray, to a certain extent random. The drips, the effects of transparency and the liveliness of the colors, characteristic of street-art, revive the initial drawing in an outpouring of more artificial, if not electric, colors. Associated with a scrupulous work of light, they participate in giving his subjects a surplus of vitality and to register them in a dreamlike representation of reality, almost hallucinatory.

First drawing inspiration from her travels, particularly in South-East Asia, she gradually abandoned the practice of landscape to concentrate on portraits with strong expressiveness. Wild animals, icons of art and bodies in movement today constitute his main repertoire of forms, affected figures that immediately arouse empathy. The power of the colors, the profusion of details and the meticulousness of the work of the gaze finally help to make his models densely vibrant, whether they radiate inner strength or whether they are frozen in an explosion of energy.
