Jacques Boumendil

Jacques Boumendil, was born in 1944 in Marseille. Passionate about image from a young age, he created his own lab at the age of 12, in a closet in the family apartment. When he was 18 he knocked on the door of a famous DALMAS news agency which was located in the premises of the Aurore newspaper.

His request comes at the right time: the agency is looking for a replacement for a photographer leaving the agency for military obligations: Raymond Depardon.

While continuing his studies in electronics, which interests him little, equipped with his Rolleiflex, he and photographer Daniel Angéli ensure the arrivals and departures of personalities at Orly.

His plan to finish his studies at the ETPCT school in the rue de Vaugirard ended after a year: requested by the company “Paris Télévision”, satellite of the RTF, he gave up photography in 1963 to devote himself to photography. cinema and nascent television where everything has to be invented.

After more than 50 years of career in film and television as a director of photography, his passion for still images is gaining ground.

With a curious and creative mind, he constantly explores new techniques.

He then decides to bring out of oblivion a series of photos taken during the filming "Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii" in 1971.

These photos which had never been seen, are exhibited in Naples and Pompeii on the occasion of the ROCK exhibition from June 6 to July 19, 2015. From 2016 to 2018 these photos are also exhibited in the archaeological site of Pompeii in the underground under the circus where the film was shot. The year 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of this legendary shoot.
