Born in 1957 in Venice, Saturno Buttò is an Italian artist.

Saturno Buttò began his career in 1993 by publishing her first monograph titled "Portrayed from Saturn". Since then he has been displaying his work in Europe, U.S.A and has published many new monographs from 1999 until 2007.

Saturno Buttò's work stands out due to his personal interpretation on sacred European art, which remind us of the great masters of our pictorial tradition.

Figurative rituals, living paintings, Neo-Gothic altarpieces are extremely technical creations that Saturno Butto draws inspiration from, in order to portray fascinating mysteries surrounding a dark and gloomy religion. In his works, this influence is transcribed by the juxtaposition of the human body's sensuality and its deep spirituality. He portrays the struggle between eroticism and suffering, transgression and ecstasy.

Through his paintings in wood, Saturno Butto precisely explores the issue of the conflict between the Western view of religious iconography and the representation of the human body, which is both exposed as a cult object and a semi-erotic beauty.

The human figure is always represented as sacred, by Saturno Butto. Yet he doesn't hesitate to show his physical decline therefore weakness. Saturno Butto means to show the fine line between purity and decadence.
