Presentation
Katarina Kudelova is a Franco-Slovak artist born in 1977 in Banská Bystrica (central Slovakia). She moved to France in 1996 to pursue artistic studies at the École des beaux-arts d'Angers. Her plastic work exploits sculpture and performance, constantly in interaction.
In addition to having graduated from the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d'Angers with the congratulations of the jury, Katarina was trained in the leather industry.
Katarina Kudelova was born in the Slovak Republic, in a family of forest engineers, a profession widespread in this country of mountains and forests. Having spent a lot of time in direct contact with nature, his plastic work is inspired by it a lot, there even, so to speak anchored.
As she says herself, "her work evokes these landscapes sometimes teeming with life, sometimes silent, covered with snow, an image of purity and childish wonder in front of a world that seems straight out of a fairy tale" .
A theater of uneasiness.
It has already been fifteen years since barely graduating from the School of Fine Arts in Angers, Katarina Kudelova sews, glues, braids, if necessary with barbed wire, draws, disguises herself, is about to blow up the firecrackers, including on itself, on its companions or on its doubles: rabbit, bear, ermine, dog, saurian, sheep, cat and chicks. Never safe, never really settled in a quiet introspection. Always on the alert for a territory on borrowed time. One operation follows the other, often cruel. We perceive the distant echoes of the Théâtre d'Artaud then the innovations of Grotowski or Kantor, an influence clearly assumed since the School. And yet, on the horizon, you can sometimes see the gentle, tree-lined slopes of Slovakia, the serene profiles of schoolmates or relatives, like shreds of Paradise Lost. The artist's writing, without ever evoking the fantastic or any provocative aim, has its roots in mystery. A rather familiar mystery, which must be nestled somewhere on the side of the jug of childish tales; inseparable, it is true, from the wolf, the brigands, the Blue Barbs. Unless you have to think about the worst battlegrounds around. Or, perhaps more cruelly still, to the unstable scene but never empty of our too burning inner questions.
