Inspired by 1/87 scale model figures, Gaspard Mitz created his first Box Story in 2010 to give it to his friend. Self-taught, driven by the enthusiastic reactions to his boxed stories, he has since enjoyed staging 2 cm characters in situations that go beyond them. Jewelery boxes, such as music boxes, cuckoo clocks and the works of artist Joseph Cornell, have always appealed to him. Admiring Japanese aesthetics, he constructs his scenes in sober and refined universes. Gaspard Mitz takes pleasure in diverting figurines from their primary function, by inventing a tailor-made destiny for them. The humor and poetry of the moments that he freezes in his boxes are reinforced by their titles.
