Mie Olise Kjærgaard

Mie Olise Kjærgaard is a Danish contemporary artist, born in 1974. She is known for her paintings, sculptures, and installations that explore themes of architecture, abandonment, and forgotten places. Her work often focuses on abandoned structures, decaying buildings, and the transformation of urban or industrial spaces over time. 

*Education* Mie Olise studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where she built a strong foundation in painting and sculpture. She later continued her studies at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, earning a Master of Fine Arts in 2007. 

*Work and Themes* Kjærgaard's work often draws inspiration from her interest in deserted places and concepts such as exploration, identity, and collective memory. Her travels to remote locations, like ghost towns in South America or abandoned settlements in Greenland, serve as a starting point for her artworks. She captures these environments and their histories in large-scale paintings and immersive installations, blending abstraction with representation. Her artistic style is characterized by bold brushstrokes, a raw color palette, and compositions that play with depth and space perception. Her pieces evoke unfinished stories and invite viewers to imagine the narratives behind these forsaken places. 

*Exhibitions* Mie Olise Kjærgaard has exhibited her work internationally in galleries and museums, including Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, the Museo de Arte Acarigua Araure in Venezuela, and the Brooklyn Museum in New York. Her work is also included in several public and private collections.
