Biography
Pierre-Marie Ziegler studies law at the University of Paris-Panthéon-Assas and philosophy at the University of Vincennes. He began painting in 1972 after a suicide attempt at the age of 21 in 1971. In 1973 he entered the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris.
In his first works, not preserved and probably burned by the artist, he combines figurative and abstract elements. From 1987 to 1998, he exclusively painted self-portraits in a style that he later abandoned when he began painting plant elements, trees and forests, abandoning the darkness of self-portraits. Very colorful and gesturally wild works appear at first, but soon, dark and threatening autumnal forests reappear in his landscapes.
For fifteen years, in notebooks of the same format, he kept a drawn and written diary covering ordinary daily life.
He killed himself on May 14, 2013.
