Anna Piazza

I am a philosopher and an artist; my career reflects a convergence between these two dimensions. I began my studies in philosophy at the University of Milan, where I specialized in phenomenology and aesthetics. I then pursued a doctorate at the Max Weber Kolleg in Erfurt, followed by a scholarship at the Nietzsche Kolleg in Weimar, where I worked on the interpretation of Francis Bacon's painting through the philosophies of Nietzsche and Spinoza.

My interest in art was initially theoretical, reinforced by a course in art criticism at the Node Center in Berlin. However, my move to Madrid, where I taught at the Francisco de Vitoria University, marked a transition to an active artistic practice. I studied painting at the La Dimano Creativa Academy and trained with Spanish figurative artists such as Borja Buces Renard. I also experimented with sculpture, expanding my technical and artistic skills.

My international experience includes an artist residency at Estudio Abierto Oaxaca in 2024, participation in a research project on art and silence at EHESS in Paris, and a stint as a visiting professor at the Centre for Arts and the Sacred at King's College London. My artistic work has been published in the arts journal Revista Ophelia, in addition to numerous academic articles on art and philosophy in international journals.

I am fluent in five languages (Italian, Spanish, German, French, and English), which has allowed me to navigate diverse cultural contexts and engage with diverse audiences. My artistic practice and philosophical research feed off each other, forming a constantly evolving creative and reflective process.
